Six Day London 2017 Live

Tuesday, October 24 To Monday, October 30

Tuesday, October 24 To Monday, October 30

Six Day Cycling is a combination of the most entertaining elements of track cycling and non-sporting entertainment.A Six Day race is one of the oldest forms of the sport, but the new version sees the event carried out in a party atmosphere. And out on the track riders compete in multiple events over the six days for an overall title.

What are the events?

Six Day cycling features an array of different types of race:

A pair of riders will take turns to race, switching roles with a hand sling to propel their partner forward.

The rider at the back of the race will be eliminated once every two laps, creating a string of sprint finishes during the race.

Each rider has their own pace-setting ‘Derny’, allowing them to benefit from a constant slipstream to reach extremely high speeds.

Omnium (women)

The Omnium is a multi-event race featuring of four different disciplines – a 7.5km Scratch Race, a 7.5km Tempo Race, an Elimination Race and finally, a 20km Points Race.

200m Time Trial

Sprinters race individually for two and a half laps as fast as they can.

Another event for the sprinters sees the riders jostle for position behind the pace-setting Derny, who moves out of the way for the last two and a half laps.

Who are the riders?

Men’s tournament

Britain Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh are the star attractions for the home crowd in London.

Cav needs little introduction. The Manxman returned to track cycling in 2016 and won a World title in the Madison and an Olympic silver medal in the Omnium. Much to the delight of track cycling fans, Cav opted to continue his track career beyond the Rio Games, partnering Bradley Wiggins in the Six Days Series as they finished second in London last year and won Six Days Ghent.

WGC-HSBC Champions 2017

Chelsea aren’t quite off to the start to the Premier League season that they wanted, but the Champions League has been a different story altogether. They’re the only team in Group C with two wins in the first two matches of the group, and with AS Roma coming to Stamford Bridge, they’ll be looking to keep that run going as long as they can.

But Roma might not be so easy to put down. They’ve been one of the better sides in Serie A this season, pairing a tough defense with a lightning-quick attack, and riding that to a recent five-match winning streak in all competitions. That run came to an abrupt end last weekend at the hands of Napoli — who just lost to Manchester City in the Champions League — but it helped them overcome a poor start to the season fueled by injuries and shaky opening form.

Now relatively healthy, Roma will be hoping to find a way to upend Chelsea and put on a serious challenge to them in the Champions League, but if anyone can stop them, it will be Chelsea manager Antonio Conte. He knows them and their manager, Eusebio Di Francesco, well, and you can bet that he’s got a very specific game plan in mind to defeat Francesco’s trademark tactics.

Chelsea are dealing with a quarter of injuries, with Danny Drinkwater, N’Golo Kanté, and Victor Moses all out, plus Álvaro Morata carrying a minor injury that will likely see him start the match on the bench. AS Roma have a few injuries as well, with two forwards out in Patrik Schick and Grégoire Defrel, plus defender Kostas Manolas
